Bai Jai Bei Quilt - 100 Good Wishes for our Kate

Here is the first annoucement of the name we will give to our daughter from China. We have chosen Katherine (from one of our favorite movies, Kate and Leopold). I wanted Kate, but Bart really liked the apology letter Leopold sent to Kate, starting "Dearest Katherine". Her middle name will include her given Chinese name in some way. This site is strictly to bore you with each and every quilt square I get for Kate and her 100 Good Wishes quilt. Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated.

A MOONBEAM
by Tom Fisher

Take a glimpse into the sky
And if a moonbeam hits your eye
Follow it back to whence it came
And dream of a child who'll bear your name

A little one may look right back
And follow a bean along it's track
And see a mother awaiting the day
In who's arms forever to stay.

Many blessing to you and your family!
Bob, Cheri, Taylor, Noah, and Kera...waiting for Lia Mei in Canastota New York

The Wintgenter Family sent this very thoughtful and creative wish and mosiac message with their choice of fabric!

"Life is like a mosiac

Every piece is in just the right place,
to make the whole picture more beautiful.

May your life be filled with great beauty!"

It made me think of our family and how "mosaic" it is!

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart"
-Helen Keller

Emily and Matthew in Austin Texas

Kate and Ron from Buffalo New York sent this neat fabric with squares on it!

May your joys be bright as the morning,
Your years of happiness as numerous as the stars in heavens,
And your troubles but shadows that fade in the sunlight of love.
-an old English blessing

From the de La Rosa family in Florida:

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
Mahatma Ghandi

From Doris and Dan in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Our wish for you :
May your life always be filled with sunshine.
May you always be surrounded by love and happiness.
May you always be proud of who you are.
May you always feel a sense of belonging in this world.
May you attain all of your dreams in life.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE...Reminds me of a Steven Curtis Chapman song.
Legacy of an Adopted Child
Once there were two women,
who never knew each other.
One you do not remember,
the other you call Mother.
Two different lives,
shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star,
the other became your sun.
The first one gave you life,
and the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love,
the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality,
the other gave you a name.
One gave you a talent,
the other gave you aim.
One gave you emotions,
the other calmed your fears
One saw your first sweet smile,
the other dried your tears.
One gave you up...
That is all she could do.
The other prayed for a child,
and God let her straight to you.
And now you ask me,
through your tears,
The age old question,
unanswered through the years.
Heredity or environment,
which are you a product of?
Neither my darling, neither.
Just two different kinds of love.

I loved this one! The simple cute message was so sweet! (Pun noted) Posted by Picasa

What is a daughter?

A daughter is love in a bright pink bow.
bowA bundle of happiness all aglow
A tomboy in jeans with a tear streaked face
Crying because she has just lost a race
Then all of a sudden , no longer small.
She's a vision of loveliness, dressed for a ball.
A dreamer, a schemer, no two days the same
What is a daughter...it's more than a name
She's a pleasure, a treasure, a comfort each day
Loving and sweet in her own special way
She's a sense of contentment felt deep inside
Bringing a lifetime of pleasure and pride

Stacy was already featured with her kindness to address this fabric and well wish to Kate herself. Ladbugs and daisies. I love daisies!

Our Wish For You:

May your sorrows be few, May your dreams come true, May love always be beautiful, and your happiness too!

This little number comes from Texas, can you tell? I thought this was so cute! I always loved visiting Texas as a child. I will have stories for Kate of those times when looking at this!

Greetings (and a little song) from Texas!

"Close your sleepy eyes,
My little Buckaroo,
While the light of the Texas skies
Is shining down on you.
Don't you know that it's time for bed,
Another day is through
So go to sleep,
My little Buckaroo."

A hometown fabric from a wonderful Aunt! Bart's godmother and Aunt Vickey

She writes:

Made for Kate

I picked this fabric because it reminded me of the little girl "Kate" that will soon be in our lives. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a real beautiful dream come true. A sweet girl, like her big brothers and big sister, who I am sure to love. Yes my family keeps growing and I feel so loved with all of them around me. Another little person to love and for them to love me. Please know that Aunt Vickey will always have time for you and love you.

On the back:

A HOME WHERE A CHILD IS WELCOMED AND LOVED IS THE HAPPIEST HOME ANYWHERE.

WISHING YOU AND YOUR NEW CHILD A LIFETIME FILLED WITH LOVE AND HAPPINESS.

Red butterflies! This card reminded me a lot of the one I was sending out! I told her she has good taste! This wellwish and fabric came from Maryland.
It says:
Katherine,
Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed
by the things you didn't do, than the ones you did.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail awa y from safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover
--Mark Twain
We hope you have
the courage to dream
and the conviction
to go after your dreams.

This purple fabric with shooting stars was sent from Canada. It reads:
May all the shooting stars above,
Fill your life with Happiness and Love.

These are two new fabrics. They were thoughfully picked out by 2 young boys. One I watch on Wed. mornings for the Bible Study group. He is special to me and Lucy. He chose the John Deere, because he LOVES John Deere. I think it is neat, because both Bart and I's grandpa's used John Deere. John Deere is still part of my Aunt and Unlce's (also Godparents) life too! I have an uncle in Iowa who works in the John Deere Factory! We were raised to appreciate John Deere.
His older brother picked the checkered flag. He loves Nascar! When his mom said it didn't have cars on it he said but it is the finish line flag! I tear up even writing this! I will always look at that fabric and see what is at our finish line waiting for us in China, now!

I love how the personalities came through with each of these fabrics. That is the whole idea! And if I am going to cry with every well-wish, I might need some more tissues! Posted by Picasa

Also...JAYNE....thanks a bunch for the miles! You are such a great support and truely thoughtful person!

Everyone else.....
Send in a 7x7 fabric square (100% cotton, please) with a smaller piece of that fabric attached to a small well wish note for Kate!
